Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work
DETROIT (WWJ)– Know before you go! Most of the planned weekend work will have a minimal impact on traffic. But as WWJ's John Bailey reports, it could be slow on two freeways where crews plan to funnel traffic into a single lane over the weekend.
Before heading out, check traffic conditions and see if your road is construction free. The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.
I-94:
In St. Clair County, by 5 p.m. on Friday, all westbound I-94 traffic will be shifted to eastbound side of the freeway with two lanes maintained in each direction between the Black River Bridge and Lapeer Road for ongoing reconstruction. Two-way traffic will share the eastbound side of the roadway, separated by a temporary concrete barrier until next July. In addition, the Water Street entrance and exit ramps to and from westbound I-94 will be closed and detoured.
In Detroit, the entrance ramp from Cadieux Road to eastbound I-94 will be closed from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday for sign foundation work.
In Wayne County, eastbound I-94 will have a left lane closure from Cadieux to Moross roads, while westbound I-94 will have a left lane closure from Chalmers to Conner roads from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday for ongoing bridge work.
In Wayne County, intermittent single lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-94 between Belleville Road and I-275 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday. By 6 p.m. on Saturday, all I-94 travel lanes will be open and the northbound and southbound I-275 ramps to westbound I-94 will be open. There will be intermittent single left lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-94, between Belleville and Wayne roads, until early December, but those lane closures will be limited to 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays.
I-275:
In Wayne County, a full 15-minute total closure of northbound and southbound I-275, between Michigan Avenue and Ecorse Road, is scheduled to occur between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in order for DTE to string a new power line over the freeway. State police will assist with the full closure.
M-59:
In Oakland County, ongoing resurfacing and bridge work will result in the following restrictions:
The left lane of westbound M-59 at Crooks is currently closed and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday.
The left lane of eastbound M-59 at Squirrel will close at 9 a.m. Friday and remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday.
Eastbound and westbound M-59 will have intermittent single and double lane closures at Crooks during daylight hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Beginning Sunday, Nov 20:
I-696:
In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-696 will have two lanes closed nightly between Schoenherr and Groesbeck from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following mornings starting Sunday, Nov 20 and ending Thursday morning, Nov 24.
