The Detroit Tigers added infield depth on Monday, trading for Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Alexi Casilla.
Casilla has spent the entire season playing for the Rays' Triple-A affiliate, the Durham Bulls, where he has batted .315 in 37 games. The switch-hitter played his last full season in 2013 with the Baltimore Orioles before a hamstring injury sidelined him for most of 2014.
The Tigers will send a player to be named later or cash consideration to the Rays in exchange for Casilla.
Tigers fans may remember Casilla -- playing for the Minnesota Twins -- hitting a walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning in the 2009 Game 163 tie-breaker for the American League Central Division Championship.
Casilla will report to Triple-A Toledo and will be in the lineup for the Mud Hens on Monday night.
