THE GREAT GAME ROBBERY

ROB SANFORD

It's been an hour and a half after Armando Galarraga's near perfect game.  I had to wait before I started writing because the blown call by Jim Joyce had upset me so much. Now that I have had a chance to think about it and see the reaction to it...my feelings are changed somewhat. I'm still speechless about the outcome...and with so much at stake...I'm amazed an umpire wouldn't lean toward giving the benefit of the doubt. Having said that....the way everyone involved handled themselves afterwards was very impressive. Joyce admitted to his mistake and apologized for the crummy call...a class thing to do. Galarraga could have ripped the umpire when he was on Fox Sports Detroit after the game....he did not and  showed class. When Jim Leyland was interviewed after the game...he gave credit to Joyce for being a good umpire and said humans make mistakes....but instead of looking at what could have been..don't forget what a great performance it was by Galarraga. I guess what I'm trying to say....if the people who were involved could handle  the disappointment with class and grace...then I guess I can as well.

Oh by the way.....how about that catch by Austin Jackson in the 9th inning!! Jackson had to run at least 50 to 60 yards then had to look over his shoulder and make a catch like a wide reciever. Centerfield is in good hands.
