The Best Dose Of Truth In Sports
By: Sara
I would like to shake the hand of the person who came up with the new signs that greet people in several parks in the Buffalo Grove suburb of Chicago. The signs are there to remind parents to stop being such JERKS when they are watching their kids play sports. Brilliant! There should be copies of this sign all over the country. For some reason, many parents have gotten out of control with their tempers, grasp of reality and lack of human decency. The author (or authors) of the park signs found the perfect balance of truth and humor. Here is what the signs say:
"This is a GAME being played by CHILDREN...if they win or lose every game, it will not affect what college they attend or their future income potential.
Of the hundreds of thousands of children who have ever played youth sports in Buffalo Grove, very few have gone on to play professionally. It is highly unlikely that any college recruiters or professional scouts are watching these games.
So, let's keep it all about having fun and being pressure-free. Referees, umpires and officials are human and make mistakes, just like players, coaches and you.
No one shouts at you in front of other people when you make a mistake, so please don't yell at them. We do not have video replay; so, we will go with their calls."
