Taylor Police Apprehend Suspect Wanted In Box Cutter Assault Following Chase On I-94
TAYLOR (WWJ) - Authorities say a 36-year-old man suspected of attacking someone with a box cutter is now in custody following a police chase that stretched from Downriver to Detroit.
Taylor police say the incident unfolded around 8 a.m. when one of their officers located a suspect in a Ford Edge in the area I-94 and Monroe Boulevard, just east of Telegraph Road. The suspect was wanted in a domestic violence incident that had just occurred in which the victim was allegedly assaulted with a box cutter, according to police.
The officer attempted to perform a traffic stop but the driver sped off, sparking a pursuit. Officers followed after the suspect as the chase entered Detroit. Once the suspect was in the area of Central and McKenzie, police say he jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
The Taylor police officer ran after the suspect and, with the help assistance of Detroit police officers, apprehended the suspect a few blocks away.
There were no injuries to any officers or the suspect during the chase, and no damage to any vehicles.
The suspect remains custody. A request for charges will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
