Syfy Television Network Pilot '12 Monkeys' Approved for Film Incentive

LANSING (WWJ) -- The Michigan Film Office announced that the pilot for a new Syfy Television Network series from Universal Cable Productions was approved for a film incentive from the state.

The 12 Monkeys pilot is filming in metro Detroit, and is a television adaptation of the science fiction film 12 Monkeys.

"Our ability to attract a television pilot like 12 Monkeys is a testament to the talent found across Michigan's film and digital media industry as well as the competitive nature of our film program," said Margaret O'Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office. "This is a great project to kick off our new fiscal year and we are excited about the opportunities 12 Monkeys present for Michigan."

The 12 Monkeys pilot was approved for an incentive of $1,546,063 on $5,356,936 of projected in-state expenditures. The project is expected to hire 150 Michigan workers with a full-time equivalent of 34 jobs.

12 Monkeys is an adaptation of the 1995 Terry Gilliam feature film. The pilot follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.

12 Monkeys is the first project approved in Fiscal Year 2014. However, $35 million awarded in Fiscal Year 2013 for the Warner Bros. Superman-Batman superhero feature film will be allocated out of Fiscal Year 2014 funding in combination with rollover funding from Fiscal Year 2013.

The Michigan Film Office was created in 1979 to assist and attract incoming production companies and promote the growth of Michigan's own film industry. The Film Office also administers the incentive program for film, television and other digital media production in Michigan. For more on the Michigan Film Office, visit: MichiganFilmOffice.org.
