'Stuff The Bus' Takes Bite Out Of School Supply Cost For Families
DETROIT (WWJ) - As a lead-up to its annual Torch Drive flame-lighting ceremony September 27th, the United Way of Southeastern Michigan is launching a four day Stuff-the-Bus campaign Monday.
Spokesperson Ursula Adams says school supplies and items like hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes are being collected during six stops in Wayne, Livonia, Warren, Auburn Hills, Novi and Sterling Heights.
"During school we find that once kids have a healthy, nutritious breakfast or snack, test scores jump 17 percent. It's very important to keep them nourished so they survive and thrive. So, we're looking for things like individual snack-paks, cheese and crackers, instant oatmeal, individual
applesauce packs, pretzels, fruit snacks, trail mix, granola bars -- anything that you would probably pack in your kid's lunch."
The items will be distributed to some area high schools. And, to help keep kids focused, non-perishable snacks are also welcomed ...
