Lions LB Stephen Tulloch sent out an Instagram post in February telling the fans of Detroit that he is no longer a part of the team.
So why is he still on the roster?
It looked like it was all over for him in Detroit this winter when he wrote this:
Like much of the communication coming from the Lions, the situation seemed to become even more unclear as they tried to explain it.
With the Lions having mini camp this week with Tulloch still on the roster, head coach Jim Caldwell explained it this way. "You know, I know that's kind of a different way of asking a question that's been asked about a 1,000 times," he said. "I'll answer it the same way that I answered it previously. I think Bob (Quinn) covered that extremely well earlier and that's all I'm going to talk about now."
According to MLive.com, Bob Quinn did indeed talk about the situation with Tulloch. But he didn't exactly throw light on the situation. "We're still in conversations with Stephen and his representative about some contractual issues we're trying to work out," Quinn said Tuesday during a break in the NFL owners meetings at the plush Boca Raton Resort & Spa.
"I really have nothing to add. As of today, Stephen is on the roster."
How does Tulloch feel about it?
Tuesday evening Tulloch tweeted, "I'm waiting like everyone else...."
I have a few theories about what's actually going on. The first one being that his agent Drew Rosenhaus had told him that the team was planning on cutting him and he decided to go to social media and post the news before it was actually official. None too pleased with that, the Lions are almost holding him hostage.
Usually when there is a veteran on the team that they are planning on releasing they give them the respect of their services and allow them to find another team. That isn't the case here though.
Another theory is the Lions really aren't sure if the linebackers they have in camp -- such as Jon Bostic, Josh Bynes, and Jerry Franklin among others -- can fill the void if they do cut Tulloch. They could be refusing to cut him in case they end up needing him.
Then there's this.
One final theory is from our own Ryan Wooley on Twitter, "With @stephentulloch still on the @Lions & Caldwell refusing to say why you have to wonder if he has nude photos of him or something #Free55."
I find that one a little far-fetched but could you imagine?
