'Stars Guitars' Auction, Concert Benefits Kids After Cancer

DEARBORN (WWJ) - If you're looking for a fun outing this weekend, you might want to head to Dearborn Saturday night for the "Stars Guitars" event, and help raise money for a good cause.

For children battling cancer, it can be tough to think of anything other then beating the disease. Besides the emotional toll cancer takes on these young patients and their families, it also impacts them financially.

That's where the Pediatric Cancer Survivor Scholarship Fund of Beaumont Children's Hospital steps in. Dr. Charles Main started the fund more than 20-years ago.

"We want to give these children their dreams back. You know, cancer takes away their dreams and cancer takes away their thoughts of ever having a future," Main said. "We have the opportunity through this fundraiser to give that back to these young people."

The Stars Guitars evening includes an auction of signed guitars from some of the biggest names in music -- including Five Seconds of Summer, Katy Perry, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Zac Brown Band and Ted Nugent -- as well as a live performance by America. A strolling dinner will be provided.

Along with autographed guitars, other auction items include restaurant packages, jewelry, home goods, sports memorabilia and more.

The event takes place at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $75 a piece.

Proceeds from the event will benefit two programs -- the Charles A. Main, M.D., Pediatric Cancer Survivor Scholarship Fund and the Pediatric Oncology Long-Term Follow-up Clinic at Beaumont Children's Hospital.
