St. Patrick's Day Celebration Starts Early, Goes All Day In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - On St. Patrick's Day, the fun began bright and early at a popular Irish pub in downtown Detroit.
"I hang out here at the Old Shillelagh and we sing Irish drinking songs upstairs and drink Guinness," said one reveler, waiting in line outside the bar for an hour in 10-degree weather Monday morning.
It's a Detroit tradition, the young man said. But will they really drink all day?
"As long as we can go! You don't wanna know (how much we drink)," he told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "It's an inhuman amount."
There are plenty of events to choose from if you're looking for someplace to celebrate St. Paddy's Day.
In Detroit's Eastern Market, the Old Shillelagh is holding its annual heated tent party. Black Mist and Stone Clover are among the featured acts.
Also in Eastern Market, Thomas Magee's Sporting House Whiskey Bar is holding its first "Eggs and Kegs" celebration. The party, which started at 7 a.m., features a corned beef hash and eggs breakfast.
In Rochester, O'Connor's Public House will feature Irish food, a tent party and two stages featuring live music and more.
At Dick O'Dow's in Birmingham, there'll be Irish food served throughout the day, a bagpiper and music from the McGlynns and Company of Strangers.
And in downtown Mt. Clemens, the Three Blind Mice Irish Pub will host a party on two floors and in a heated tent outside. There'll be live music, DJs, Irish food and more.
