BOWNE TWP., Mich. (AP) - The National Weather Service says a small tornado with 75 to 85 mile-per-hour winds briefly touched down in western Michigan's Kent County, with no injuries or property damage reported.
Forecaster T.J. Turnage says the tornado hit about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday near an intersection in Bowne Township, about 15 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.
Turnage says the tornado cut a path about 50 yards wide for about 0.8 miles.
The weather service has issued high wave warnings into Wednesday for the shoreline of lakes Michigan, Huron and St. Clair.
Forecasters say north to northeast winds gusting to about 25 mph will generate 3-6-foot waves along Lake Michigan. Swimmers are being warned about dangerous conditions through Wednesday on lakes Huron and St. Clair.
