Signs of Depression in Seniors

Suspect a senior you know is suffering from depression? According to the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation, here are some signs to look for:
• Physical symptoms such as pain or gastrointestinal problems
• Withdrawal from regular social activities
• Persistent sadness (lasting two weeks or more)
• Feeling slowed down
• Neglect of personal appearance/hygiene
• Excessive worries about finances and health problems
• Frequent tearfulness
• Feeling worthless or helpless
• Weight changes
• Pacing and fidgeting
• Difficulty sleeping
• Difficulty concentrating
If you or someone you know exhibits any of the above symptoms, see a doctor. Depression is treatable!
