Romantic Wedding Proposal Captured On Video At Detroit's RiverWalk
By George Fox @GeorgeJFox
It's one of the most stressful moments in life, but it was a happy ending for this Detroit couple. Darius Thompson got down on one knee and asked Candice Ross to marry him in one of the Motor City's most romantic settings.
"It was perfect," said Thompson, a sales consultant with Suburban Cadillac in Plymouth.
Ross didn't know their family members and a cameraman were hiding nearby to witness the proposal as it happened Friday, October 7 on the Detroit RiverWalk.
A Minor Snag
The plan was nearly thwarted since the RiverWalk area was shut down temporarily due to a threat being reported. Thompson stalled to make the magic moment happen just as he envisioned it.
"That was a huge wrench thrown in there. I thought it was going to be over for me," said Thompson.
The couple stopped next to the Detroit RiverWalk Fountain, he pops the question and stunned Ross claps her hand over her mouth. While still on his knee she paces in disbelief and eventually hugs him to the applause of friends, family and bystanders.
Her brother even came in from out of town as an added surprise.
Did She Say Yes?
With two thumbs up and a big smile Thompson declares to the camera, "she said yes!"
"That day was so special and magical. I was a little nervous. It was her birthday as well. The whole day led up to that night," said Thompson.
She was shocked of course said Thompson adding that she told him how she didn't need any more proof to know he was the one.
Detroit-based photographer and videographer Desmond Love (VP Photography) was contacted by Thompson to record the event under cover.
"Darius hired me to go incognito to setup the shot for the proposal," said Love who started shooting with a cellphone three years ago and has built a media business buying better equipment along the way. Setting The Bar High
It's no small feat to orchestrate such an elaborate plan and also get it on tape. If you're ready to ask the big question -- take this as an example of the right way to do it.
Dressed in their best and surrounded by a beautiful setting are details that put this proposal over the top.
"I wanted her to feel like she was floating. Give her something special because every woman deserves it," explained Thompson.
No date has been set for the wedding, but the newly engaged couple are busy planning.
