Rochester High Student Faces Weapon Charges

A Rochester High School student who allegedly pointed a gun at a classmate is facing criminal charges.

Oakland County Sheriff deputies arrested 17-year old Allante Thompson Wednesday morning at his Pontiac home. Investigators say Thompson pointed a gun at another student last week as the two prepared for sports practice and pulled the trigger. The gun wasn't loaded. Witnesses say Thompson acted like it was a joke.

A statement from the Sheriff's Department says the investigation "revealed that other students reported that they saw Thompson on that Tuesday with either a gun or what looked like one. Some students said they saw him point it at the other student. One student observed as Thompson removed the ammunition clip from the weapon, rack out the round that was in the chamber, then point the gun at the other student."

The incident wasn't reported until last Friday when the victim told a teacher.

Thompson attends the Alternative Center for Education in Rochester Hills and played on the Rochester High basketball team. He was suspended.

Thompson was arraigned Wednesday on charges of felonious assault and carrying a handgun in a weapons free school zone. He could face up to five years in jail if convicted.
