Jim Caldwell is back, but some of his staff reportedly won't be.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lions running backs coach and run game coordinator Curtis Modkins will become Chip Kelly's offensive coordinator with the 49ers. The Lions did not confirm the move.

Modkins took on a bigger role halfway through last season, after three coaches from the offensive staff lost their jobs in Week 8. This year was Modkins' third season in Detroit and eighth total in the NFL. He was previously a running backs coach for Kansas City and Arizona and was the Bills' offensive coordinator.

New Lions general manager Bob Quinn announced last week that Caldwell would return as head coach. Jim Bob Cooter, who was promoted to offensive coordinator in Week 8 last season, will retain that title.

The 49ers ended the 2015 season at 5-11 and fired head coach Jim Tomsula soon after. Kelly was fired in Philadelphia and was named San Francisco's coach last week.
