Report: Greg Monroe Willing To Sign Qualifying Offer

CBS DETROIT - Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe has been exploring sign-and-trade options and is willing to sign a one-year, $5.3 million qualifying offer, according to the Detroit News.
If Monroe signs the qualifying offer, he would enter unrestricted free agency following the upcoming season. Waiting a year to sign a larger, longer contract is something of a risk, as Monroe's stock could fall if he performs poorly or gets injured next season, but it would also be the one way Monroe can fully explore his options.
The Detroit News also reported Monroe has not pursued an offer sheet from another team. If he did, the Pistons would have the opportunity to match and potentially lock Monroe into a long-term situation in Detroit.
New Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy has consistently stated that Detroit wants to keep Monroe, and Van Gundy has said he talks to Monroe's agent, David Falk, on a regular basis. Van Gundy said most of the conversation has taken place between him and Falk - versus between him and Monroe - at Monroe's request, though the two do speak occasionally about Monroe's situation.
Free agency began July 1. Monroe has until Oct. 1 to make a decision.
