Raburn Is Tigers New 'Situation'

The Sports Xchange

The next problem Detroit will have to address is getting more production from second base.

Ryan Raburn is the choice de jour -- almost by default since the release of Brandon Inge (and the second-guessers are having a field day with that move, since Inge has hit two grand slams this week -- the second came on Thursday against his old team).

Raburn had an excellent spring training, but when the games began to count his hit count nearly stopped, perhaps not surprising given his career history of poor first halves.

When the team is struggling, though, waiting for Raburn to starting hitting again can be like waiting for the next flight after yours has been cancelled.

And of course the longer it takes the louder will become the clamor for a replacement.

Raburn came out for extra batting practice Thursday but he was 0-for-4 until doubling to center to begin the ninth inning. It still left him 2-for-15 on Detroit's trip to Seattle, Oakland and Chicago and a batting average that has sunk to a freshman high school guard's weight -- .134.
