Potential Can Be A Heavy Load
By Rob Sanford
I will admit...I drank the Kool-Aid during Spring Training feeling like the Tigers needed only to show up and the pennant would be theirs. But then reality hit. Doug Fister went down with an injury.....the shaky start for closer Jose Valverde....a brief slump by Miguel Cabera...all brought home the fact that you don't win on paper. Manger Jim Leyland says anyone who felt the way I did...knows nothing about baseball. Typical talk from the crusty field boss. But the players all know what the fans expect...anything short of a World Championship will be failure. It's a tough task and nothing is for sure....let's just enjoy the ride.
How 'bout those White Sox. They have a supply of young power pitchers and a defense that was very impressive last week-end against Detroit. I think they could be a factor this summer in the Central Division.
On a more personal note....I'm sorry I got a late start this season....a long vacation and a 10 day stretch of jury duty left me with little time. I am pumped and excited about the season and plan to update my end of the blog on a regular basis.
