COMERICA PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Detroit Tigers starter Rick Porcello will not be missing a start after all.
Porcello received a six-game suspension July 2 after he threw at Ben Zobrist June 30 in what was apparently a retaliation to Tampa Bay's Fernando Rodney throwing at Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera in the previous game.
Porcello had appealed the suspension but just recently dropped his appeal. The suspension officially began yesterday, so it will include the last four games of the first half of the season and the first game of the second half.
Since Porcello pitched Wednesday, he is not scheduled to start again in the five-game window of the suspension.
Essentially, Porcello is suspended but will not actually be punished. He said he was surprised to hear about the suspension and disagreed with it.
