Police Make Arrest In Connection With Drug Shooting Near EMU

YPSILANTI (WWJ) - Ypsilanti Police have arrested the man suspected of shooting three young men near the Eastern Michigan University campus border during a drug deal gone bad.

Police said late Wednesday that 24-year-old Quenton Martez Dodson was arrested without incident in Detroit.

Investigators say the March 23 shooting took place around 7:15 p.m. in a parking lot at Lowell and Jarvis streets in Ypsilanti. Investigators say the victims and Dodson were involved in a drug deal of Oxycontin, when a dispute developed over what exactly they were supposed to be getting during the buy. At some point, police say Dodson pulled out a handgun and began firing.

One man was shot in the abdomen, one in the hip and the third in the chest. Police say the victims, two 18-year-olds and one 20-year-old, are expected to recover.

Police say those involved in the shooting were not students at the school. One victim is from Ann Arbor and two are from Ypsilanti Township.

Ypsilanti Police say Dodson's arrest was a collaborated effort from the United States Marshals Service, Michigan State Police Fugitive Team and Detroit Police Department.

Dodson will be lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail, where he will be held until arraignment.
