Police Investigating Possible Car Bomb In Oakland County After Truck Explodes

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- Police are investigating an explosion that destroyed a truck in Springfield Township on Saturday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., officers responded to the 8200 block of Tindall Rd. in Springfield Township for a possible car bomb that had exploded in the driveway of a home.

The homeowners heard a loud explosion in their driveway and discovered that the Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, owned by a family member who was not home and had parked it in the driveway overnight, had been damaged.

No one was in the vehicle and no one saw or heard anyone leaving or in the area.

The explosion did significant damage to the truck, destroying the interior of the vehicle and sending debris over the yard and driveway. The windshield of the truck was blown over the home and into the backyard, shattering a window. No one inside the home was injured.

First responders requested the Michigan State Police bomb squad and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to assist in the investigation. The cause of the explosion is under investigation, as is a motive.
