Police investigate after bodies of man and woman found at Detroit home

The Detroit Police Department says an investigation is ongoing after a woman and a man were found dead inside a home Thursday night.

At about 9:30 p.m., officers were called to the 15500 block of Stoepel Street, where they discovered the victims. 

Police say there is no threat to the public, and they are working with the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office to identify the victims.

Neighbors told CBS Detroit they didn't hear any gunshots and, in fact, have been smelling something rancid for about two weeks. 

"I've been smelling a loud smell we couldn't even take it. It was like during the Lions game and before the Lions game, we've been smelling a bad smell," said Tracy.

Tracy said she spends much of her time in her backyard just feet from where Detroit police have been investigating the homicide. She says she's been smelling something rotten for weeks, enough to file a complaint with the city over a week ago. 

Other residents near that home also said they've been smelling that odor for some time. It was an odor that our CBS News crew said they smelled as well. Our crew also saw police all day Friday going in and out of the home where they first came on Thursday night.

"I sit back here and lay around, and sometime, I might fall asleep back here. Just like 30 feet from that house? Yeah, and the smell was so strong that I couldn't hardly breathe," she said.
