Troopers say a volunteer searching for the boy found him under or near a log, about two miles from his campsite.

MSP says the boy appears to be in good health.

Nante Niemi was found around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to MSP, Nante told them he covered up with branches and leaves for warmth and also blanketed the log he was under. He ate clean snow for hydration.

Michigan State Police are leading a search effort to find a missing 8-year-old Wisconsin boy who was last seen May 6 while camping with his family in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.

Troopers say Nante Niemi was gathering firewood for his family's campsite when he went missing around 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6. The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is near Wakefield in the western Upper Peninsula.

Nante is 4 feet 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 70-80 pounds. He has blonde hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white sweatshirt, grey sweatpants and black boots.

The search includes more than 150 personnel from MSP and local police agencies, including nine K9s, covering a 40-square mile area on foot in a terrain that is hilly and remote with standing water. Troopers say several seasonal roads are impassable because of the depth of snow. Police are also searching by air and water, as weather permits.
