Police: Body Parts Identified

The Wayne County medical examiner's office has determined that body parts found Monday near Eastern Market belonged to a 61-year-old black man.

An arm and a leg were found in the morning in a field on Hale Street near Chene on Detroit's east side. Then, late Monday night, a torso was found wrapped in a blanket.

Police said, in this neighborhood, it could be a message killing — related to drugs or prostitution.

County spokesman Dennis Niemiec said Tuesday that the man's name isn't being released until relatives are located and notified. Officials were using fingerprints to determine an identity.

Niemiec said he can't couldn't confirm where the man lived or if he had a criminal record.

The vacant field where the parts were found is a few miles outside downtown Detroit.
