Pat Caputo: Winning Against A Weakened AL Central Is Crucial For Tigers

Entering this season, the American League Central drew much praise and notoriety for its strength.

During an era when major league clubs tend to be watching their budgets for player payroll, three AL Central clubs — the Tigers, White Sox and Twins — top $100 million.

The Indians and Royals, while in rebuilding mode, have been hailed for drafting some of the best prospects in baseball — particularly the Royals.

Then, the season started. And it's been, with the exception of the Indians, downhill since for the division.

The Twins, beset by injuries and the bullpen from Hades, have been among the worst teams in baseball.

Everybody expects the White Sox to surge, but they haven't — and June is just around the corner. The natives are getting restless and manager Ozzie Guillen is sounding off again. Anybody surprised?

The Tigers have been up and down like a yo-yo.

The Indians, despite injuries, have somehow managed to win a lot of games, but their wheels seem a bit shaky.
