They say when a player reaches the Double-A level of the minor leagues, he is knocking on the door of the major leagues.
And that was true of Brandon Inge in the summer of 2000 when I talked to him for the first time in Jacksonville, Fla. He would be rated the Tigers' top prospect that winter by Baseball America. He would make his major league debut in the 2001 season.
