Memorial Day, in part, is a celebration of life.
It's the first holiday weekend after a long winter. The beach. The park. The backyard. Up North. Barbeque. Picnics. Baseball.
It's a great extended weekend.
But the deeper meaning of Memorial Day is remembering the people who gave their lives for our country. On Memorial Day, we honor them.
It's about the steep price for freedom and our way of life, which we wouldn't trade for anywhere in the world — flawed as it may seem sometimes.
Athletes have often been viewed as a selfish breed. Pampered and coddled. Millionaires playing games many of us would play at an elite level for nothing — if blessed with that kind of ability. And not always appreciating it.
