Pat Caputo: Perhaps The Best Prep Baseball Player In The State, Zuchowski Now Copes With Tragedy

Daniel Zuchowski was sitting on top of the world in June.

As a pitcher and shortstop, he led Madison Heights Bishop Foley High School to the Division 3 state baseball title.

He performed so well under the pressure of the state tournament, there was buzz he was the best prep baseball player in the state, and Bishop Foley was widely regarded as the top team in the state regardless of class.

A few weeks later, while playing at the University of Notre Dame with his summer team, the South Oakland A's, Zuchowski received a call from his mother, Donna.

Suddenly, his world was turned upside down.

His big brother, Thomas, known as T.J. to his family and friends, had been paralyzed from the chest down in a swimming accident.
