Michelle St. Pierre from the Detroit Archdiocese says many people who are sick or otherwise in need are praying for miracles at the statue.

"This particular statue has been known to have miraculous healings - to have conversions of heart - it's been known to weep - it's traveled the world 200 times Russia and China and in between," said St. Pierre.

She says the journey commemorates the 100th anniversaries of an Angel of Peace and what is said to be the appearance of Mary before three young children on the 13th day of the months of May through October 1917, in Portugal.

According to Fatima Shrine Detroit her message to them was to be "fervent in working for the salvation of souls and the conversion of sinners, especially through penance and the praying of the daily rosary. She identified the conversion of sinners as key to peace in the world."

St. Pierre says that the statue represents heaven, "she is our mother, asking us to pray for peace," says St. Pierre.
