Man, 30, in custody after police officer hurt in Roseville shooting
A 30-year-old man is in custody after a police officer was hurt in a shooting Friday night in Roseville, Michigan, according to police.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on the 26000 block of Kathy Street around 5 p.m. Police said they were "immediately met with gunfire" from an assault rifle.
According to officials, the shooter, identified as the man, opened fire on the officers from inside the home through a closed window. Police then returned fire, striking the man.
An officer was shot during the "initial onslaught," and was taken to the hospital, officials said. They have since been discharged.
"We are happy to report that the officer is home and resting comfortably with his family," police said in a written statement on Sunday.
Officials said law enforcement used "several resources and techniques," including an armed personnel carrier, to get the man out of the house. He was shot at least once and was taken to the hospital.
The man, who is being monitored by police at the hospital, was in stable condition on Friday night, according to police.
"There's a full-on gunfight, and we're kind of ducking down ... I'm watching things out, and it just keeps on going down south," said Matthew Lapinski, who lives nearby, about the incident.
Amber Meyer, another nearby resident, said, "A cop showed up at our back door, asking if we had a ladder so they can get somebody up on our roof."
Neighbors say this was not the first time they witnessed law enforcement presence at the home.
"It shouldn't have to lead up to this. It shouldn't have had to come this far when one of our fellow intervening cops have been injured at the site of a job, just trying to do his due diligence," said Karley Quenneville.
