Off-Duty Harper Woods Police Officer Killed In Motorcycle Crash

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 46-year-old Harper Woods police officer has been killed in a crash.

Police in Chesterfield Township say the accident that happened just before 10 p.m. Monday, on Gratiot just south of 21 Mile Road.

Ronnie Karjo was off-duty, police said, traveling southbound on Gratiot on a motorcycle when he collided with a northbound car that was turning into a gas station.

Karjo, of Macomb Township, was rushed to McLaren Macomb Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Chesterfield Township resident, was treated for minor injuries.  No one else was hurt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Chesterfield Police and Michigan State Police accident reconstruction team.
