NFL Owners' Meeting Begins Tuesday At Key Juncture

CHICAGO -- NFL owners will meet Tuesday, and perhaps into Wednesday, to discuss the status of negotiations with the players aimed at ending the lockout now in its fourth month.

Amid optimism that momentum has been gained to reach a new collective bargaining agreement, owners and representatives from the 32 teams will get details of the latest talks. In the last three weeks, groups led by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith have made progress toward a CBA that would allow training camps to open on time late next month.

But no one is saying a deal is imminent, and several owners are known to have strong questions about proposals being discussed with the players.
