Nativity Scene At Center Of Dispute In Warren
WARREN (AP) - The site of a nativity scene in suburban Detroit is at the center of a dispute involving a national nonprofit for atheists and agnostics.
The Madison, Wis.-based Freedom From Religion Foundation issued a press release Tuesday saying it wants to put up a sign inside Warren City Hall stating in part that religion is a "myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."
Warren Mayor James Fouts told The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens that the city "cannot accept hostile displays that are personal attacks on religion."
The group last year also made an issue of the nativity scene at City Hall. It's the fourth consecutive year for the display.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation made similar efforts in other parts of the country related to nativity scenes.
