"My Brother Marvin" At The Fisher Theatre

DETROIT (WWJ ) - Metro Detroit fans of Motown legend Marvin Gaye will have the opportunity to see the fallen singer's life and legacy acted out on stage, in the hit play "My Brother Marvin," opening Tuesday at the Fisher Theatre.

Grammy Award nominated singer/actor and Detroit native, Keith Washington will portray Marvin Gaye in the production, written by Angela Barrow-Dunlap, also a Detroit native.

Washington stopped by the WWJ studios and spoke with our Chrystal Knight.

Washington said he's thrilled to have the role but not everyone shared his enthusiasm: "Some may have perhaps thought I didn't have the skill to play Marvin as an actor."

But confirmation came from a place he didn't expect; Marvin's family.

"The family, Zeola Gaye, and her sister and their daughters gave me the most confidence by saying that reminded them of Marvin, without even trying to portray the person Marvin," he said.
