Mom Who Faked Son's Cancer Back In Court

MACOMB (WWJ) - A former Roseville woman is facing time behind bars when she's sentenced Tuesday for "faking" her son's cancer to collect money from people, even members of her own family.

Prosecutors say Carol Schnuphase took more than $8,000 in donations by duping people into thinking her son was seriously ill. She even made the child look and feel seek by shaving his head and eyebrows, and giving him opiates.

Carol Schnuphase pleaded no contest to the charges, and could end up serving a little as a few months behind bars. The sentencing judge could decide whether she goes to prison or county lockup. Prosecutors are pushing for prison.
