Missing Man Returned Home

SYLVAN TWP. (WWJ) - In Sylvan Township, a missing elderly man has been returned to his family, thanks to a tip from a Good Samaritan.

Police told WWJ Newsradio 950 82-year-old Herman Memering, who is suffering from early dementia, is back home, Tuesday morning, after he disappeared Monday afternoon.

After issuing a missing persons report, the Michigan State Police received a call from a motorist who saw the man driving in rural Washtenaw County, near I-94 and Zeeb Road, and called police.

"They made a traffic stop on him. He's healthy and in good spirits; a little dazed and confused, and I think the weather contributed to that as well.  But, long story short, we were able to drive him home and put him in  touch with his family. We're all, of course, very relieved," said State Police Trooper Joseph Broder.

Memering told police he had gotten lost and, with the bad weather, decided to spend the night in his car.
