Michigan Navy Seal Among 7 American Troops Killed In Afghanistan

KENTWOOD (CBS NEWS/AP) -  The family of a West Michigan Navy Seal confirm he was among seven American troops who were killed in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan.

According to MLIVE.com -Davey Warsen, who had been in the Navy for nearly four years, was expected to return to the states by Oct. 1, when his deployment officially ended, said his grandfather, Duke Warsen.

Family members said 27-year-old Warsen graduated from East Kentwood High School and was living in California before he deployed.

At East Kentwood High, Warsen excelled in soccer. Later, he attended local colleges, intending to become a teacher.

At some point, he and a friend from Holland decided to join the military.

NATO says 11 people, including  the seven American troops, were killed in  the crash. It was not immediately clear what caused the helicopter to crash. An investigation is now underway.
