Shepler's Ferry To Continue Mackinac Island Runs

DETROIT (WWJ) - Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry has received city council approval on a franchise agreement that lets the company continue serving the resort community this year.

The Mackinac Island City Council action lets Shepler's extend its 65 years of operations while still pursuing legal action against the city over provisions of its new ferry ordinance.

Last Friday, Shepler's was given a franchise to operate ferry boats to and from the city of Mackinac Island. Monday's decision lets the company continue to offer discounted tickets.

Last Wednesday City Council gave a franchise to a competitor, Northern Ferry.
