LTU Offers Grants To Automation Alley Employees

Up to $3,000 in tuition grants to Lawrence Technological University will be offered to all employees of Automation Alley members, beginning with the upcoming fall semester.

The grants allow workers to take advantage of a wide range of new academic programs the university has developed to help strengthen and diversify Michigan's economy.

They include:

* $3,000 per semester for full-time undergraduate students (12 credit hours or more).
* $1,500 per semester for part-time undergraduate students (at least 6 credit hours).
* $250 for each graduate-level course a student takes.

Automation Alley has more than 1,000 members, and thousands of employees are eligible to take advantage of this tuition grant program. Lawrence Tech was a founding member of Automation Alley in 1998.

"The association has initiated many programs to help drive economic growth in southeastern Michigan, and we feel this is another opportunity to contribute to the vitality of the region," University president Lewis Walker said. "A more educated work force will help companies achieve greater productivity and expand their operations in growing sectors of Michigan's economy."

The tuition grant program for Automation Alley members is designed to help employees take advantage of education incentives offered by their employers, according to Lisa Kujawa, assistant provost for enrollment management at Lawrence Tech.

In the past two years, Lawrence Tech has aggressively recast its academic programs and inaugurated new content. In addition to new bachelor's and master's degree programs, the university has introduced 36 "fast track" certificate programs to help returning students gain expertise in growth areas such as life sciences, sustainability and the film and defense industries.

In order to qualify for the tuition grants, employees of Automation Alley members must provide the university with proof of employment. These tuition grants cannot be combined with other tuition grant programs from Lawrence Tech, although students can switch to the grant program that gives them the most assistance.
