Loud And Proud 'Caleixco' Set To Open In Detroit This Summer
Downtown Detroit will be home to a new Mexican restaurant called "Caleixco," named for the border between California and Mexico.
And it's a big one.
The 4,000 square foot restaurant will open mid-summer in Campus Martius. Its the fourth of its kind in the country, with the other locations in New York.
Co-Founder Dave Vendley says they have all kinds of food, music and drinks -- something that young Detroiters will love.
"There's no smoke and mirrors, it's very straight forward food with bright flavors," Vendley said. "We build an atmosphere, we play rock and roll music, we play it a little bit louder than most places, our flavor is a little bit louder than most places and, you know, it's, once people go there, it's a place you can go three times a week or once a month and we just have fun with it and keep it a little loose."
Small, rolled quesadillas with a special chipotle cream salsa -- dubbed 'crack sauce' -- is a house specialty.
The Vendley brothers got their start on food carts. They plan to open this summer.
