Lions Reportedly Will Re-Sign Defensive Tackle Tyrunn Walker

By Ashley Scoby

According to the Detroit Free Press, Lions defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker is expected to re-sign with the team on a one-year deal Thursday.

The Lions have been in desperate need at the defensive tackle position this offseason. As of now, they only have two under contract (it's unsure if Haloti Ngata, an unrestricted free agent, will return). Walker was considered the 40th best free agent on the market this offseason, according to Pro Football Talk's rankings.

Walker's 2015 contract with the Lions was for $1.75 million, including a $750,000 signing bonus, according to Spotrac. The Free Press reports that his new contract would be of a similar value.

Walker joined the Lions last season after spending three years in New Orleans. In October, he suffered a gruesome injury, breaking his leg and dislocating his ankle.

Walker is in the midst of his rehab now, and shared a video on Twitter as he went through agility drills.

Before his leg injury sent him to the injured reserve list, Walker was getting more time at the tackle position. The fifth-year player out of Tulsa started in all four games he played in last season, accumulating five tackles.

Walker joins Gabe Wright and Caraun Reid as the only defensive tackles officially under contract by the Lions. A thin rotation in the middle of the defensive line is expected to be a focus heading into April's NFL draft and the beginning of free agency next week.
