Lions Add Steven Williams To Coaching Staff

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that Head Coach Jim Caldwell has added Steven Williams to the team's coaching staff as defensive quality control coach.

Williams joins the Lions after spending the past three years at Penn State University, assisting with several areas of the Nittany Lions football program. In 2012, he arrived on the State College, Pa., campus and served one season as assistant strength and conditioning coach (2012) and then was offensive/defensive graduate assistant during his final two seasons (2013-14).

In 2011, Williams began his college coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina working with the Gamecocks strength and conditioning program as well as the team's defensive backs and special teams.

Prior to his stint at South Carolina, Williams spent three years (2008-2010) as a teacher and assistant football coach at Karen Wagner High School in San Antonio, Texas.

Williams graduated from Harvard University in 2008 and was a standout on the gridiron for the Crimson. During his college career, he set the school's career record for interceptions (16) and tied Harvard's record for interceptions in a single-season (8). While at Harvard he earned first-team AFCA All-America honors and was unanimous all-conference as a senior. Following graduation, Williams participated in the 2008 Detroit Lions Rookie Mini-Camp as a tryout invitee.
