Leyland Doesn't Want To Get Too Excited Yet
Jim Leyland doesn't give an ox's tail if 2012 is following the path of 2011.
Detroit defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-4 on Sunday to complete a sweep of their three-game series.
It left Detroit 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place Chicago in the AL Central -- exactly where the club was a year ago after the same date.
Last year the Tigers struggled along to the All-Star break then took off. They were 53-46 a year ago and 1 1/2 games ahead of Cleveland. They went on to finish 42-21 and win the division by 15 games.
This year Detroit is 52-44, but duplicating the finish of a year ago is difficult to foresee, although the club is 8-2 since the All-Star break and has won 13 of its last 15.
"We're playing good, having a little fun, and we just want to keep it going," Leyland said. "It's a roller coaster. Don't make a big deal of it. Take it for what it's worth. It's only July 22."
