LeVert Named One Of 10 Finalists For Jerry West Award

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball senior Caris LeVert was named Tuesday as a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's Jerry West Award top 10 finalist. The honor recognizes the top shooting guard in men's college basketball.

LeVert, who is one of two Big Ten players on the 10-member list along with Illinois' Malcolm Hill, has missed the last eight games with a lower left leg injury, but still leads U-M in scoring (17.6) and assists (5.2). He has started 14 games and recorded 13 double-figure scoring performances with four 20-plus point games.

He became the 49th Wolverine to score 1,000 career points and currently sits 43rd all-time with 1,070 points. He has highlighted this season by recording just the fourth triple-double in program history with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Northern Kentucky (Dec. 15).

During his time at Michigan, LeVert has compiled an 88-37 career record. As a freshman, he helped U-M reach the Final Four and national title game. The following year, he guided the Wolverines to their first outright Big Ten title since 1986 as well as a second straight appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight.

This top 10 list will be narrowed down to five finalists in early-to-mid March. The winner of the award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California, on Friday, April 8.

The award is named in honor of Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West. West attended the West Virginia and averaged 24.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per game in his three varsity seasons. He led his team to the NCAA Championship game in 1959 and was named a consensus All-American in 1959 and 1960.
