Letter Reveals Ex-Teacher Impregnated Teen

IONIA (WWJ/AP) - A former Michigan teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year old girl two years ago has now gotten her pregnant.

Former Saranac High School teacher Krag Sanford, 59, appeared Monday in an Ionia courtroom for a hearing on two counts of distributing sexually explicit materials to a minor.

Sanford was arrested this year after authorities said he had a sexual relationship with the teen. Police said an investigation reveleaed Sanford and the student had met for sex at his apartment at Byron Lakes Apartments in Byron Township.

The Sentinel-Standard reports a letter presented in court requested Sanford and the teen be allowed to be in contact because she is about eight weeks pregnant with his child.  In the letter, the girl reportedly explains that its a high-risk pregnancy, so she is in need of emotional support. She also says the doctor is asking for Sanford's medical history to help prevent a premature birth.

District Court Chief Judge Raymond Voet denied the request.

Sanford also faces a charge in Kent County that's related to the case.

He resigned from his position with the school in December 2010.

A message was left Tuesday morning with Sanford's lawyer.
