Late July Edition Of Stoney Six Pack
1. David Purcey has to be sent to Toledo or sent home. In his last ten games, the left handed reliever has an ERA of 15.75. After his disgusting two walk performance Thursday in which he failed to retire a batter he has walked 12 batters in 8 innings. I am sorry to be so harsh, but the guy is horrid.
2. Is it time to move Miguel Cabrera to the third spot in the lineup? I may be jumping the gun a little, but he led off innings four times Thursday after a feeble 0 for 5 performances by Magglio Ordonez. I want Miggy to have a better opportunity to drive guys in and leading off innings is not a way to do that. Plus over the course of the final third of the season, putting Cabrera in the three holes could give him a minimum of 20 more at bats this season. The more time he comes to the plate, the better chance the Tigers have to win.
3. Could the beginning of free agency be any less exciting for Lion fans? Justin Durant, Rashied Davis and, Maurice Leggett are under whelming. Please give me either another starting linebacker and cornerback to satisfy me. I am certainly not ready to panic. It is still very early and there are plenty of guys still there. l am being very patient and Lions fans should be too.
4. Gotta love the cajones of Bill Belichek. His short time success with Randy Moss and Corey Dillon had to be the reason for New England trading for Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco. I love the move. I am certain the two habitual malcontents will be on their best behavior for at least one season.
5. Bengals owner Mike Brown is, to be kind, a fool. Carson Palmer wants to be traded and will retire if he is not. Brown said he will not reward him for not living up to his contract. This is wrong on so many levels. First of all, management does not always live up to their end of the contract, by cutting guys at any time. Plus, by not getting anything for your asset, you are screwing you team and your fans. I am sure Brown could get something of value for Palmer .Anything is better than nothing and nothing is what Cincinnati has won under Brown. (I know they have been to a pair of Super Bowls)
6. Are people really that offended that Brady Hoke calls the Buckeyes "Ohio" and declares "it might sound arrogant and if it is but This is Michigan "? Games and titles are won on the field not on the podium. Even Mark Dantonio declaring Jim Tressel a "tragic hero" means nothing. Too many times we praise or rip coaches by what they say at press conferences, failing to realize that much of the time it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
