How can you conduct a draft, when you don't have a coach?

That's what the Pistons apparently are going to do Thursday night. How could they not have a coach in place? Joe Dumars and his staff have been evaluating talent here and abroad for the last several weeks -- but not evaluating head coaching candidates -- at least not enough. But what if the new coach, doesn't like the pick, wanted someone else, dislikes Rodney Stuckey or Greg Monroe and would have drafted over them.

We've heard Laimbeer, Woodson, and Sampson ... all being strongly considered. But I get a sinking feeling that whoever gets the call is doomed before their regime ever gets started.
