National TV can't show a sporting event from Comerica Park, Ford Field or Joe Louis Arena without including a shot of Detroit's best known symbol, which shed its shroud 25 years ago.
What some decried in 1986 as a negative representation of belligerence and hostility has matured into an icon of a city that exhibits courage and strength even in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds, just as the Joe Louis fist's creator hoped.
