It's All Happening At The Zoo, Attendance Continues To Climb

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - For the seventh year in a row attendance at the Detroit Zoo has topped the million mark.

Just about 1.3 million people stopped by the Detroit Zoo in 2012 and that is up a little bit over the year before.

Zoo officials say they can thank the mild weather last spring and births of North American river otters, a camel and red kangaroos for boosting the attendance. Three orphaned grizzly bear cubs also drew crowds.

Attendance at the smaller Belle Isle Nature Zoo in Detroit was over 37,000 in 2012.
