Is Disgruntled Parent Behind Bomb Threats At Roseville Middle School? Police Investigate

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Were a pair of phone threats targeting a local middle school made by an angry parent?

Police in Roseville say that's entirely possible and it's one theory they're investigating following two days of evacuations at the city's middle school due to bomb threats.

The threats, which were received Tuesday and again on Wednesday, were nearly identical: Police say someone called the school and said an explosive device was in the building. Both calls were received just prior to the start of the school day.

Police say the calls were made by the same person, an older female, but investigators haven't yet been able to identify the voice.

On Tuesday, students were taken to an elementary school on the property, and on Wednesday they were taken to a nearby high school as police and bomb-sniffing dogs swept the middle school. In both cases, police found nothing of concern and determined the threats were not credible.

During both evacuations, WWJ's Mike Campbell spoke with parents like Christine Richie, who said she wouldn't be surprised to find out a parent was responsible for the threats.

"Well last week they had a problem with a couple groups of kids and I guess a parent was calling in threatening," she said. "So there was a problem last week, too."

Police Chief James Berlin said at this point, the disgruntled parent theory is the only lead investigators have. He added that the caller could face up to 10 years behind bars if tried and convicted.

About 550 students are enrolled at Roseville Middle School.

Anyone who has information on the threats is urged to contact police at 586-777-6700.
